Types of Garage Doors

When you're choosing garage doors for your Forest Lake home or business, you have a few different options. We here at Premium Garage Door Services are going to outline the four basic types.

Swing Out
These garage doors are great for people who want their garage to have a unique look. These doors don't roll up onto the ceiling, so they are an excellent choice if you need to keep the ceiling clear.

Swing Up
Swing up garage doors are also a unique and distinctive look for your home or business. They are usually built as one piece and are a great option if you are trying to match a home's established look.

Roll Up
These are the most common garage doors. They are simple in design and are great for people who are concerned about preserving storage space in their garages. Plus they are very convenient because most of these types of garage doors can be fitted with an automatic garage door opener.

Slide To The Side
These garage doors are definitely unique and distinctive! Doors like this can give a home or business a very fresh and modern look.

Generally speaking, garage doors can be made of wood, steel or aluminum. It really depends on the aesthetics of the house or office and the owner's preference. Each material has its pros and cons. For example, wood is a great material because they can usually withstand small impacts (like from balls or other outdoor toys). Steel is a great option because it can withstand even bigger impacts and will not rot, so it's incredibly durable too. Aluminum is also quite sturdy and also will not rot.

When you're ready to have garage doors installed in your Forest Lake home or business, or if you need repairs done to your current garage door, call Premium Garage Door Service at 651-344-0489 or you can Contact Us.

What's So Important About Garage Door Springs?

When you open and close your garage door, do you ever take a close look at all of its components? Did you know that one of the main parts of a garage door are the springs? Premium Garage Door Service, a Forest Lake garage doors repair and installation company, has several reasons it's important to keep an eye on them.
These springs help the garage doors open and close, which is their most basic function. The garage door's motor couldn't open and close them on its own, so these springs play a vital role. One of the main reasons these springs break on garage doors is due to the outdoor elements, like weather. Old age is also a factor because these springs only last about 5 to 10 years tops.
Replacing these springs when they break off of garage doors is a tough job. You should not attempt to fix the springs on your own. Because there is so much tension in them, they can snap or break and cause serious injury to someone who isn't sure of what he or she is doing. So that's why it's important to call in the experts, like Premium Garage Door Service, any time you notice a broken spring or one that looks like it's on its way out. Experts like us can repair just about anything on garage doors, and springs are one item we seem to replace quite a bit! We definitely don't want anyone to get hurt while attempting to fix them, so that is why we always recommend you call in the professionals like us. We can come to your home or business and get the springs replaced in a safe and timely manner!
So when you need springs repaired on your Forest Lake garage door, just give us a call at 651-344-0489 or Contact Us.

Interesting Facts About Roseville

One of our favorite areas to service here at Premium Garage Door Service is Roseville. This suburb of the Twin Cities is full of interesting history. For example, did you know that the first Target store was built in Ramsey in 1962 and was replaced by a SuperTarget in 2005? Here are some other fun facts about this neck of the woods:

  • The first Barnes & Noble bookstore ever built outside of New York City was built in Roseville.
  • Roseville was home to the first McDonald’s and Dairy Queen in Minnesota. You will find that Dairy Queen listed on the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota’s list of the 10 Most Endangered Historic Places too.
  • North America’s largest outdoor artificial sheet of ice is called the John Rose Oval, and that is also located in Roseville.
  • The John Rose Oval hosted the 1995 Men’s Bandy World Championship and the 2006 Women’s Bandy World Championship. And every year, the U.S. national bandy team and the Canadian team meet there for friendlies (in November).
  • In 2010, the population of Roseville was 33,660.
  • Some famous names originally from Roseville: Richard Dean Anderson (of MacGyver and Stargate SG-1 fame), Loni Anderson (of WKRP in Cincinnati fame) and Peter Krause (of Six Feet Under and Parenthood fame).
  • The first white settlers came to this area in 1843 and established Rose Township in 1850. The town was named after one of the first settlers to come to the area, Isaac Rose.
  • Roseville is one of two suburbs that are adjacent to both St Paul and Minneapolis.

Troubleshooting: My Garage Door Won't Open at My Mendota Heights Home!

When your car is parked in your Mendota Heights garage and the garage door won't open, what do you do? Especially if it's an emergency situation and you need to get your car out NOW? If it's not an emergency situation, you should call Premium Garage Door Service. Our experienced team members know exactly what to do to get your garage door back in working order. But if you need to get out as soon as possible, there are a few things you can try on your own. Here is a list of some of the safer things to try:
First, check to make sure your Mendota Heights garage door isn't in “vacation” or “lock” mode if it won't respond to the garage door opener when you use it from the outside. If the garage door opener still won't open your Mendota Heights garage, one of the most obvious things to check are the batteries!
If you are inside of your Mendota Heights garage, check the garage door opener's wires and make sure they are all still in one piece and aren't frayed. If they are frayed or torn in any way, call Premium Garage Door Service so we can make the necessary repairs or replace it for you.
Also, you can check your Mendota Heights garage door opener's electric eyes. Make sure the beam isn't being interrupted by an object and make sure it's aligned. Make sure both eyes are completely clean. The two eyes should be pointed directly at one another too, so double check that as well.
If all of this fails to fix the problem at your Mendota Heights home, pick up the phone today and call Premium Garage Door Service. We aren't just open during normal business hours. We also have 24-hour emergency service, just for situations like these. Give us a call at (952) 513-4849 (South Metro), (612) 234-4812 (Minneapolis), (651) 344-0489 (St. Paul) or (763) 607-3402 (North Metro) or contact us online.

Winter Tips from Your Minneapolis Garage Door Company

Winter is definitely here in Minneapolis! You can feel the bite of cold air every time you set foot outside or into your garage. Premium Garage Door Service, a Minneapolis garage door company, has some tips for you on how to keep your garage door operating smoothly during the winter months, and here are a few others we’d like to add.

First, test your garage door. Open and close it a couple of times and keep an eye on it as it’s moving. Is the movement smooth and without interruption? Also, listen for any odd noises. Do you hear anything grinding or squeaking? If you see or hear any problems, contact a trusted Minneapolis garage door company like Premium Garage Door Service. One of our experts can come to your Minneapolis home and inspect your garage door for any necessary repairs. Winter weather tends to exacerbate garage door problems, so it’s important to have a Minneapolis garage door company you can trust to do the job right the first time.

Also, take out your garage door opener and test it a few times. How many times do you have to click on the button to get the garage door to respond? If it’s more than once or twice, you might need a new opener (or it could be your opener just needs some new batteries!). Call your Minneapolis garage door company to take a look at the opener if changing the batteries doesn’t improve its performance.

For problems with lubrication or the springs, definitely call in the experts at the garage door company! These are necessary repairs, but they are best left to the pros, like the ones at Premium Garage doors. Adjusting the springs can be dangerous because they are under a great deal of tension. And, while lubricating your garage door is a DIY task that some like to do on their own, it can be tricky because you have to use a certain type of oil and only certain parts of the garage door need to be lubricated. Again, call in a reputable garage door company.

If you’re having any problems with your garage door, call Premium Garage Door Service, a trustworthy Minneapolis garage door company, at (612) 234-4812 or contact us online.

Common Roseville Garage Door Repairs

We here at Premium Garage Door Service see a lot of the same repair problems for garage doors in Roseville. While we do not recommend trying to fix your Roseville garage door on your own, there are a few common Roseville garage door repairs that you can keep an eye on. And if you need a trustworthy company to call on to make those garage door repairs, just give us a call and we will gladly help you out!

One of the most obvious things you can do to keep an eye on any garage door repairs you need is to listen for any unusual noises. If you hear something that doesn’t sound quite right, it’s time to call in the Roseville garage door repairs experts to make sure it’s not indicative of a bigger problem. Is your garage door opener working properly? Sometimes, it’s a problem with the garage door and other times, the garage door opener itself needs to be repaired or replaced.

When garage door repairs are needed, a specialist can come out to your Roseville home and check on a few basic things. He will look at the springs on your garage door to make sure they are working properly. This is one of the most important garage door repairs we can make for Roseville residents. Faulty springs could result your garage door having trouble staying up or down, and if the door suddenly falls, that could lead to a really bad injury (or worse!).

He will also check the garage door for the force adjustment. This is what causes the garage door to spring back up if it feels any pressure. This helps ensure your safety, your family’s safety and your car’s safety.
A professional can also come out and make sure there is enough grease on the garage door mechanisms. You can do this on your own, but it is highly recommended you call in the experts. Sometimes Roseville homeowners use the wrong kind of grease or they lubricate the wrong parts of the mechanism.

And one of the most important garage door repairs you can have done in the winter in Roseville is having a professional come out and adjust the force of the motor. This will help the garage door motor move more efficiently and could save you from costly garage door repairs later down the road.

For all of your Roseville garage door repairs needs, call Premium Garage Door Service at (612) 234-4812 in Minneapolis, (952) 513-4849 in the South Metro area, (651) 344-0489 in St. Paul and (763) 607-3402 in the North Metro area. Or you can contact us online.
